5.11 Tactical Range Ready Trainer Bag 50L

When we plan a day at the range for leisure or competitive practice, we understandably are going to look like we are packing for a 3-day camping trip. You need to have your eye protection, hearing protection, firearms, ammunition, targets, and those are just the bare necessities. What about tools for maintenance? A speedloader for that stiff magazine? And snacks?! When you think of all the things you might need it becomes a long list that could require multiple bags (raises hand – guilty as charged). Why not spring some money for a better solution? A range bag that carries everything you need including that Snickers bar so you are never hungry. Enter 5.11 Tactical with their Range Ready Trainer Bag in a 50 Liter volume size. We are going to review this range bag to see if it has what it takes to carry all of our range gear. Let’s dive in!

Specifications – 5.11 Tactical Range Ready Trainer Bag 50L

If you shoot long enough you begin to acquire range bags like you collect holsters (you have a secret closet full you are too embarrassed to attempt to even inventory). I am in that boat. Instead of having 8 range bags that accomplish 12% of the job, it’d be better for your storage and wallet long-term to get one end-all, be-all range bag. With 5.11’s Range Ready Trainer Bag 50L it looks to do exactly that. All of the specs for the Range Ready Trainer Bag 50L can be read below as presented by 5.11 Tactical:

The 5.11 Tactical Range Ready Trainer Bag 50L are available in the colors of Kangaroo or Black (our review bag is the Kangaroo colorway). With 5.11 Tactical, they offer FREE returns if for some reason a purchase on their website is not to your liking plus FREE shipping on orders over $60 – which this would be applicable – with an MSRP of $145. A short quote from 5.11 further explains the Range Ready Trainer Bag below:

“The Range Ready Trainer Bag has space to hold everything you need for a day at the range. Fully padded with a PE board base to keep your gear safe while the removable dividers let you customize the bag. Internal quick access elastic mag and accessory panel as well as elastic loops under the lid give you the ability to carry loaded anywhere you go and that’s just the main compartment. Three side compartments and MOLLE webbing let you take even more.”

Range Use – 5.11 Tactical Range Ready Trainer Bag 50L

When it came to actual use at the range I was quickly impressed by how much space and methodical compartments were constructed into such a modest range bag. I easily fit 3 handguns equipped with red dots in zippered pouches plus an AR-15 PDW in the main compartment with room to spare. Like I mentioned earlier, this range bag could do the work of multiple other bags for me or anyone else. In fact, I emptied out 4 of my personal range bags into this one.

I packed in multiple pairs of over-the-ear hearing protection plus a canister of lead wipes (to remove lead particles from your hands at the end of range sessions). Also, I put in multiple micro cleaning kits like the one I have from Pro-Shot designated towards maintaining any AR-15s I bring to the range. Moreover, with all of this stuffed into the main compartment there was still room for more.

What I also appreciated was the external web MOLLE on the right-hand side to easily clip on a pair of sunglasses, a knife, other tools, mag carriers, and/or another 5.11 bag! Having specific things clipped to the exterior just makes for rapid access and less digging at the range. Also, I collect morale patches and the large loop front panel is perfect for patches, an ID, or your other favorite patches.

On the side of the Range Ready Trainer Bag I stored multiple pairs of shooting glasses as well as additional batteries for my electronic hearing protection earbuds. I liked that this compartment unzipped and folded flat. I could essentially have a working area to manipulate tiny batteries into their hearing protection as well as wrap/unwrap shooting glasses from their storage boxes.

On the rear-facing of the range bag there is more storage yet. In these two larger storage areas I placed multiple “Bore Snakes” for cleaning the chamber and bore of various caliber firearms I might bring to the range. I also found room to carry all of the ammunition I might need and more shooting glasses.

Final Thoughts – 5.11 Tactical Range Ready Trainer Bag 50L

So, what are my final thoughts on the 5.11 Tactical Range Ready Trainer Bag 50L?… All in all, I found the storage throughout the bag to be easy to access, intuitive, and spacious. This is not a duffel bag where everything is jostling about on the inside. All of the unique storage compartments, pockets, and zippered areas can serve a purpose and are versatile to how you may want to deploy them for use. At the MSRP of $145 – and the fact that it could immediately replace ~5 of the range bags I already own – I believe this range bag is fully worth the asking price.

In closing, I want to say thank you to 5.11 Tactical for allowing AllOutdoor and myself the opportunity to try out their 5.11 Tactical Range Ready Trainer Bag 50L. That is greatly appreciated. Also, we would like to know what all of you guys and gals think? Do you believe that the 5.11 Tactical Range Ready Trainer Bag 50L is something worth spending your money on?
